All good things about Taj Vivanta Trivandrum
In the midst of the dawn of summers, we thought to do something cool. The Taj Vivanta chain attracted our attention and we decided to choose one of its branches in Kerala for our honeymoon. After browsing through the various spots in Kerala, we chose the one at Trivandrum.
Well, why? We wanted to get a taste of luxury in the midst of a not-so-developed environment. That is how you appreciate the best things!
We reached Trivandrum Airport on the eve of 3rd March. As expected our airport transfer was waiting for us. We reached the hotel in about 45 minutes from the airport and were greeted by the warm hotel staff.
Our room was a regular one but the staff had arranged an amazing welcome for our honeymoon. Chocolate cake, fresh fruits and milk chocolates laced with a welcome message refreshed us after a tiring flight. Taj made us feel special.
Now our honeymoon plan was to spend our vacation in leisure at the hotel and explore its property. We headed straight for the buffet dinner. During our stay, the hotel had organized a Spices Feast Week called Chettinad and we made the most of it. The main purpose of this feasting week was to introduce the authentic dishes of Kerala to the guests and to celebrate the food culture there.
The buffet dinner had a collaboration of items right from Prawn Curry, and Chicken and muttons in Keralite style to the subtle Curd Rice, Tamarind Rice, Multigrain Dosas et el.
After having a sumptuous meal, we headed for our room. The moment you hit the bed, you realize a calming effect overwhelming you. This is because Taj uses super soft linen and pillows stuffed with lavender and other soothing herbs. We just didn’t want to get up the next day after a fulfilling night’s sleep.
We woke up late morning and hit the pool. The poolside was well-managed and the pool was clean. The pigeons taking a bath occasionally looked serene, although from the hygiene perspective am not so sure.
The buffet breakfast was lavish. I personally liked their baked items section where we had Danish Breads, Croissants, Muffins etc. I would say the breakfast was designed to cater to everyone’s taste and mood.
Next, we took a ride costing 2000 bucks for a four-hour stay to and fro the famous Kovalam beach from Taj. I wouldn’t say the ride was very pleasant because it was pretty humid outside and I guess our choice of timings was wrong. We left at 3 PM and were back by 6.30. The beach was good but I wouldn’t give it a lot of credit as the local rustic crowd was a mood spoiler.
To have a relaxing night, we opted for in-room dining with a DVD. The hotel has such facilities and you would easily miss it if you don’t go through one of their facility manuals.
What I liked about Taj:
They had mistakenly included a buffet lunch to our plans. When this came to their knowledge, they proceeded to charge us for that meal. However, when we pointed out their mistake and requested to let it slide, they did so with no qualms.
Also, one more act on their behalf was quite welcoming. Our flight was scheduled for 5 pm and we were supposed to leave the hotel by 3. However, the check-out time is only till 12 noon. But on informing the staff about our plans, they easily extended out checkout time to 3 pm with no extra charges! Now that is some hospitality.
Taj made our stay memorable with an enriching customer service and memories to revive those moments yet again in the next decade. We will surely return soon….
